Chapter 3: Earths Structure and Materials
This chapter focuses on the structure of Earth and the different rock material that is created through the rock cycle. Students will learn the three layers of the Earth and their subsections. They will also learn about how convection currents inside the Earth fuel plate movement and the rock cycle. In the end of this chapter students will learn about the three types of rock formations, and characteristics Geologists use to classify those types of rocks.
Chapter 4: Earth's History
This chapter focuses on Earth's past. Students will learn to identify the different kinds of fossils and explain how they form as well as being able to describe what fossils tell us about organisms from the past. They will also learn to describe how geologists determine the relative age of rocks and explain how an unconformity and folding can alter the order of rock layers. Radioactive decay will be explored as well as how scientists determine the age of Earth. Lastly students will look at geologic time and see how it is used to explain Earth's history as well as take a look at how Earth has changed over geologic time.
Chapter 5: Plate Tectonics
Plate Tectonics is the study of what Earth's continents "sit" on, what causes them to move and how they moved in the past and today.
Chapter 6: Volcanoes
Volcanoes and the movements in Earth's crust that cause volcanoes to occur. Students will learn which process within the Earth's crust and mantle help in the creation of volcanoes.
Chapter 7: Earthquakes
Earthquakes and the movements that occur in Earth's plates to help them occur. Students will learn how scientists monitor and rank these phenomenon.
Chapter 8: Land, Air, and Water Resources
Thanks to www.liveoncelivewild.com for the wonderful picture.
What resources are available to us and how we use them, how we pollute them and how we can revive what we have placed in danger.
