Chapter 9: Waves and Light
With chapter 9 begins the journey into energy transfer. Students will about the components of the electromagnetic spectrum and what an electromagnetic wave is. Within the electromagnetic spectrum is visible light which can behave in certain ways as it reflects off and travels through matter including different types of mirrors and lenses.
Chapter 10: Energy and Heat
In Chapter 10 students will learn about the various states of matter and what must be done to change liquid to gas, solid to liquid, or any combination of those varying states. They will learn the 3 different temperature scales that are used around the world to measure temperature and how temperature is different than heat. The chapter will end with discussion of the way heat is transferred through convection, conduction, and radiation. The last concepts will be critical in understanding Earth formation later in the course.
